As one of the Public Art Commissioners for the City of Palm Springs, I serve as part of a civic body dedicated to fostering creativity, cultural vitality, and community engagement through public art. Our commission’s mission is to enhance the visual and cultural landscape of Palm Springs by integrating art into public spaces, supporting local and regional artists, and ensuring that public art reflects the diverse stories and spirit of our community.
In this role, I participate in reviewing and approving public art proposals, advising on policy development, and collaborating with city staff, artists, and community members to shape the city’s public art vision. Commissioners also play a key part in identifying opportunities for art in upcoming capital projects, ensuring artworks are maintained, and advocating for equitable representation within the city’s growing art collection.
Currently, I am leading an initiative to create a Public Art Asset Map and Inventory for the City of Palm Springs. This project involves documenting existing public artworks, sculptures, murals, and installations throughout the city — capturing details such as artist information, materials, locations, and condition assessments. The asset map will serve as both a planning and engagement tool, providing the public with a dynamic resource to explore Palm Springs’ cultural assets while helping the city manage and preserve its art collection more effectively.
Through this work, I aim to strengthen the connection between art, place, and community — ensuring that public art continues to enrich Palm Springs’ identity as a destination for creativity, inclusivity, and innovation.
